A Farm Based Discovery!
Taking advantage of a five acre eco-friendly farm with animals, The Green School children learn through hands-on exploration about the world around them. Experiencing a sustainable curriculum through integrated lessons, children develop key life skills that include kindness to our planet and all living things. While feeding and caring for the animals on the farm, students create bonds and gain independence. Our ‘outdoor classroom’ proves to be a key element in The Green School’s philosophy of learning through discovery. Our indoor classroom is designed in a safe, playful, and familiar way. Early learners must feel secure and this fairy tale setting creates comfort to allow them to confidently separate from grown-ups. The small class setting and certified early-childhood teachers support the child’s ability to grow at an appropriate pace. The developmentally appropriate materials and lessons celebrate and foster all learning styles. Nature inspires creativity in a child by demanding visualization and the full use of the senses." ~ Richard Louv We offer a well rounded curriculum that includes art, science, music, movement/sports and literature. The integrated approach of learning letters as they compost and create recycled art projects reinforces the eco-friendly guidance it offers. All cooking projects and snacks in our country kitchen are organic and often come right from the farm. Cooking with the eggs our hens offer and saving all scraps to feed the animals is an experiential approach that will have life-long impact for our early learners. Nothing goes to waste on the farm, and each item is incorporated into a project or a learning opportunity. A vital part of our philosophy is “paying it forward” and for each student enrolled, we sponsor another child to go to school in Thailand through our charity organization, Mari’s Children. |
