AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
2020-21 currently not running
After a long day spent at school enjoy the many benefits of the farm, students will experience farm life, receive animal education and learn about sustainability while interacting with and feeding goats, sheep, chickens, Coco the donkey, horses, pigs, rabbits & our guinea hens. The animal educator teaches age appropriate lessons for students ranging from Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade.
Our educational programs are based on agriculture, animal sciences and environmental sciences.
Animal Science: Engage young minds through a unique educational program of animal connection. Learn fun facts from our animal educator as well as through exciting hands-on science experiments.
Environmental Sciences: Discuss the importance of saving energy, recycling, composting and ways to better care for our planet. Become green thinkers and learn the value of showing kindness to our environment. Students will rotate through the different stations including our organic garden, our worm farm, composts and see how we utilize our animal spill and turn it into soil. We also encourage our students to create...we make art or nature projects from "trash," such as a bird house from a milk carton.

Examples of Themes:
Local Birds of the East End: Spot a few local birds and learn about their survival skills. Create a recycled bird feeder and/or house.
All About Squirrels: Create a squirrel house to help both the squirrels and the birds as they will otherwise eat our bird food. Discuss their habitats and seasonal pattern.
Pet Detectives: With magnifying glasses and head lamps discover the imprints of animal paws and prints.
From Egg to Chicken: This engaging topic brings the life cycle to life for children. Through hands-on interaction with hens or chicks, as well as searching the coop for eggs. Explore the life cycle of the chicken and discover how the embryo develops inside the egg.
Butterflies: Students will observe the different stages in the butterfly life cycle. A walk through our organic gardens will allow for a visit with our butterfly friends and chance to quietly observe these beautiful creatures in their natural environment. (Late May through September only)
Worm Garden: Gain a better understanding of how these amazing creatures benefit our gardens and soil. An introduction to composting and the role worms can play in this process is reviewed. As well as hands-on interaction with these little critters. (Late May through September only)
